WASHINGTON, MAY 31, 2018 – Eddy Packing Co., Inc., a Yoakum, Texas establishment, is recalling approximately 18,390 pounds of smoked sausage that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically soft plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The frozen, ready-to-eat smoked sausage items were produced on March 14, 2018. The following products are subject to recall:  [View Label (PDF only)]  
      
• 10-lb. case of “CARL’S PORK AND BEEF SMOKED SAUSAGE WITH A STICK” with lot code 8073, case code PS9319 and sell by date of March 14, 2019.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST 4800” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to food service businesses in Texas.
                                 
The problem was discovered after the company received a customer complaint about soft, green plastic material found in the product.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.  
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers after having purchased the product from food service businesses. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

WASHINGTON, MAY 31, 2018- Ruiz Food Products, Inc., a Denison, Texas establishment, is recalling approximately 50,706 pounds of frozen breakfast burritos that may be contaminated with extraneous material, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The frozen cook and serve breakfast burritos were produced on March 3, 2018. The following products are subject to recall:  [View Label (PDF only)]   
   
  • 3.38-lb. plastic wrapped packages containing 12 Count, 4.5-ounce individually wrapped frozen “EL MONTEREY SIGNATURE BURRITOS, EGG, SAUSAGE, CHEESE & POTATO” with lot code 18062 and 18063, and a best if used date of 3/3/2019 or 3/4/2019.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 17523A” on the back of the packaging. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide. 
                                  
The problem was discovered after the company received complaints from consumers who reported finding white, semi-rigid plastic pieces in the product. 
 
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Committed to the quality of its products, H-E-B is voluntarily issuing an all-store recall for certain flavors and container sizes of EconoMax and Hill Country Fare ice creams and Creamy Creations sherbets for broken metal in processing equipment found during routine maintenance. The affected products were distributed to stores in Texas and Mexico.
To date, there have been no injuries reported due to this incident.
All products related to this recall have been removed from store shelves. H-E-B is working to have the products back on shelves as soon as possible.

Dough-to-Go of Santa Clara, CA is recalling 20 cases of cookies because they may contain undeclared tree nuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
Zoe’s Cookies are manufactured by Dough-to-Go and were sold to a local foodservice distributor and subsequently distributed to their customers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The product is a 4oz vegan tuxedo fudge chocolate cookie that is individually wrapped with the Zoe’s brand name and flavor label on the front and the nutritional information and ingredient listing on the back. These are packed 24 to a case and sold with a product label and production code on the outside container. The UPC number on the cookie label is 044964133404 and the lot code of the cases in question is 222620.
To date there has been one reported case of an allergic reaction to the walnuts.
The consumer who suffered the allergic reaction reported the incident to the FDA when it was discovered that the walnuts were not supposed to be in that product as they are not listed on the label as an ingredient or allergen. The reason behind the undeclared tree nut is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing, however, a breakdown in the companies mixing procedures or incorrect labeling is suspected.
If you have purchased a Zoe’s brand 4oz individually wrapped Vegan Tuxedo Fudge cookie you are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. WASHINGTON, May 26, 2018 – Hormel Food Corp., a Fremont, NE establishment, is recalling approximately 228,614 pounds of canned pork and chicken products that may be contaminated with foreign matter, specifically pieces of metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The canned pork and chicken products were produced on February 8 through February 10, 2018. The following products are subject to recall:  [View Labels (PDF only)]
  • 12-oz. metal cans containing “SPAM Classic” with a “Best By” February 2021 date and production codes: F020881, F020882, F020883, F020884, F020885, F020886, F020887, F020888 and F020889. These products were shipped throughout the United States.
  • 12-oz. metal cans containing “Hormel Foods Black-Label Luncheon Loaf” with a “Best By” February 2021 date and production codes F02098 and F02108. These products were shipped to Guam only.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 199N” on the bottom of the can. These items were shipped throughout the United States and to Guam.
The problem was discovered after the firm received four consumer complaints stating that metal objects were found in the canned products. FSIS was notified on May 25, 2018.  
There have been reports of minor oral injuries associated with consumption of the products. FSIS has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

The myth about McDonald's and the $15 minimum wage losing jobs

All over social media, there is talk of how the fight for a $15 minimum wage would lead to decreases in jobs. This is has been especially true for places like McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and other multi-national fast-food companies. Meme's like the one shown here, can be found all over social media, and like most meme's, they are only being used as a tool to try and silence the discussion.

Unfortunately, McDonald's has done a very poor job of explaining their madness to the general public, and as such, has resulted in being the brunt of bad publicity in the fight towards a $15 minimum wage. 

I am going to try and explain the method to McDonald's madness in this new technology scheme of theirs.

While these kiosks do require less employees to work in the front as cashiers, it shifts the majority of positions into the kitchen. This picture shows six (6) new order taking positions (These kiosks are double sided, so there is one on each side), plus there are going to be two registers at the front counter as well, and almost all McDonald's have gone to double drive thru (available at all times it says on the signs). That is ten (10) order taking stations, where there used to be four or five. To meet that demand, almost all the McDonald's have started remodeling the kitchens to house more cooks to meet the demand of more orders per hour. Plus they now offer table service, which is another employee, so that everyone isn't standing in a mass at the front counter waiting on orders. McDonald's corporate staffing also states that these kiosks must be manned by a cashier, in case someone comes in and doesn't want to use them, the cashier can use it for them and the guest just swipes their card.

Now, while it may seem that positions have been eliminated, McDonald's has actually created more positions and increased its staffing. In this way, McDonald's can (in theory) server more customers per hour than they could previously. More customers per hour means more sales per hour. More sales per hour, means that they can afford to pay their employees more, which actually makes these pieces of equipment beneficial to the minimum wage increase, if used properly.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed that the peanut –containing product was distributed in packages that did not reveal the presence of peanuts.

WASHINGTON, May 16, 2018 – Kent Quality Foods, Inc., a Grand Rapids, Mich. establishment, is recalling approximately 308,430 pounds of ready-to-eat hot dog and sausage products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products contain soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. 
The ready-to-eat (RTE) hot dog and sausage items were produced on various dates from September 9, 2017 through April 29, 2018. The complete list of products with lot codes and labels can be found here: List of products [View Labels (PDF only)]
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 5694” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution and restaurant locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered on May 12, 2018 by the establishment during product inventory activities. The establishment noticed that the label for the spice mixture used in the production of one of their Beef Polish sausage contained hydrolyzed soy protein as an ingredient. However, the Beef Polish Sausage does not list the soy ingredient on the finish product label. Although the Beef Polish sausage product is the only product that is formulated with the spice mix containing the soy ingredient, there are several other ready-to-eat sausage and hot dog products that are implicated in this recall action due to potential cross contamination via shared equipment during the raw and ready-to-eat processing steps.
