Maytag Dairy Farms Expands Voluntary Recall Of Blue Cheese Products Due To Possible Health Risk

NEWTON, IOWA – Maytag Dairy Farms is expanding its voluntary recall of “Maytag Blue” blue cheese wedges, wheels and crumbles because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue.

This expanded recall is of 35 lots of 1, 4 and 8 oz. wedges and 2 and 4 lb. wheels; and 43 batches of 8 oz. crumbles and 5 lb. crumbles. This includes the 5 lots and 15 recalled batches which were announced February 19, 2016 and are noted in the tables below.

The recalled product was sold through distributors, wholesalers, retail stores, restaurants, and direct mail orders nationwide between November 24, 2015 and February 11, 2016. Affected products are packaged as follows:

The potential for contamination was discovered after testing by the State of Iowa revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in two lots of product. Maytag Dairy Farms has voluntarily suspended production and distribution while the company collaborates with the Food and Drug Administration and the State of Iowa to determine the cause of the problem.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2016 – Sally Sherman Foods, a Mount Vernon, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 3,004 pounds of various chicken products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The chicken salad items were produced on various dates between Feb. 2-18, 2016. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels (PDF Only)]

4-lb. Plastic container of Sally Sherman “Spa Chicken Salad with Greek Yogurt,” with a packaging date of Feb. 2, 9, 11, and 18, 2016 and a case code of N-026, N-096, N-114, N-184.
4-lb. Plastic container of Sally Sherman “Chicken Salad All White Meat,” with a packaging date of Feb. 2, 4, 11, and 18, 2016 and a case code of N-026, N-044, N-114, N184.
4-lb. Plastic container of Sally Sherman “Deluxe Chicken Salad All White Meat,” with a packaging date of Feb. 4, 11, and 18, 2016 and a case code of N-044, N-114, N184.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-4400” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distributor locations in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

The problem was discovered due to in-plant sampling of products that confirmed positive for Lm. FSIS and the company have received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

WARREN, Mich. - Lipari Foods, LLC has issued a voluntary recall of dark chocolate covered coffee beans packaged by sister company JLM due to an undeclared allergen of tree nuts (almonds). People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The products are safe for consumption by those who do not have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds.
The products were distributed to retail stores throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Products were distributed under the following brand names Angeli Foods, Harding's Markets, Goosberries Fresh Food Market, Martha's Vineyard, Hollywood Market, Daniels Foods, Snook's Butcher Shoppe, Martin's, Holiday Market, The Purple Onion, Remke Market or as generic product without branding.

There are no reported illnesses in connection with these products to date.
This was brought to our attention by our sister company, JLM who discovered that dark chocolate almonds were unintentionally mixed in with the dark chocolate covered coffee beans during packaging of private label products. As a precaution, Lipari Foods private label and non-branded products are being recalled as they have the potential to be contaminated. We are working closely with the FDA to ensure that all affected product has been pulled from commerce.

Rucker’s Wholesale and Service Co. of Bridgeport, IL is voluntarily recalling all of Uncle Bucks and Cabela’s Classic Candies Maple Nut candy peg bag, due to the presence of an undeclared peanut ingredient. People who have an allergy to peanuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The recalled Maple Nut candy was distributed nationwide in Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's stores.

The affected product is packaged in a 2.7oz, clear bag with paper header card, both brands are UPC 7 52545 07101 3. This includes all best by codes 010116 through 020117.

One allergic reaction to date has been reported in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated following a consumer report of allergic reaction and Rucker's discovery that peanut was not listed as an ingredient.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2016 – Ajinomoto Windsor Inc., a Portland, Ore. establishment, is recalling approximately 6,000 pounds of pork products due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product is labeled as beef, but contains pork, which is not declared on the product label.

The pork dumpling item was produced on Dec. 6, 2015.

4-lb. plastic bag packages of “Shirakiku Gyoza Dumplings with Beef” with a best if used by date of June 6, 2017.
The product subject to recall bears establishment number “Est. 18356” inside the USDA mark of inspection. This item was shipped to institutional and retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered by the sole purchaser of the product.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Wilderness Family Naturals of Silver Bay, MN, is voluntarily recalling its Wilderness Family Naturals Organic Coconut Milk Powder and other products that contain this ingredient due to potential milk contamination. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The products are safe for consumption by those who do not have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk.
The recalled products were distributed nationwide in retail stores and online.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that one lot of Organic Coconut Milk Powder (lot #1000013229) tested positive for milk. Further investigation indicates that the manufacturer of the Organic Coconut Milk Powder unintentionally added milk to the food as a result of cross-contact. No other lots of Organic Coconut Milk Powder have tested positive for milk at this time. Wilderness Products is nonetheless recalling all lots of Organic Coconut Milk Powder and other products that were manufactured with Organic Coconut Milk Powder out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of its customers.

Customers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk who have purchased an affected product should not eat it. Rather, they should dispose of it.
