EDITOR’S NOTE: This release is being reissued as an expansion of the June 16, 2017 recall to include additional products. Details of this release were also updated to reflect a change in poundage.

WASHINGTON, June 20, 2017 – Channel Fish Processing Co., Inc., a Boston, Mass. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,190 pounds of breaded Swai products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The products may contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the finished products labels.
The scope of this recall expansion now includes 350 pounds of breaded Swai products that were produced on Feb. 6, 2017. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels (PDF Only)]

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Announcement

A single production batch of Fat Cat Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce, sold specifically to Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, BI-LO Supermarkets and Harvey’s Supermarkets in the Southeastern U.S., has been recalled due to a potential peanut contamination found in the product. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The recalled Fat Cat-brand Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce was distributed exclusively to Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, BI-LO Supermarkets and Harvey’s Supermarkets in the Southeastern U.S. (464 stores in all). The stores that carried the product are located in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Louisiana specifically. A complete list of stores that carried the product can be obtained by request via the contact information listed above.
United Natural Foods, Incorporated (UNFI), the company who distributed the products to the Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, BI-LO Supermarkets and Harvey’s Supermarkets supermarkets listed above, is handling the recall of the product, in cooperation with Fat Cat Gourmet Foods and Southeastern Grocers, which manages the aforementioned Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, BI-LO Supermarkets and Harvey’s Supermarkets.
The recalled Fat Cat Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce comes in a 5 ounce glass bottle; the necks of the affected bottles display the lot number FCPPMAY092019 on them. A digital image of the product and its label are included at the bottom of this communication.
The recall was initiated after an ingredient supplier, Woodland Foods of Chicago, IL, notified Fat Cat Gourmet Foods via letter that there was a possible peanut contamination in the peri-peri peppers used in their product.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this and the recall does not impact other releases of Fat Cat Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce sold in stores other than the aforementioned Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, BI-LO Supermarkets and Harvey’s Supermarkets in the Southeastern U.S. Only bottles of Fat Cat Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce with the lot number FCPPMAY092019 stamped on it are affected.
While Fat Cat Gourmet Foods will continue to produce the product, the company will no longer use per-peri peppers sourced from Woodlands Foods in doing so. Peri-peri peppers used in future productions of Fat Cat Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce will now be obtained from a different supplier, who has provided microbial clearance of allergens to the product prior to production agreement.
Consumers who have purchased 5 ounce bottles of Fat Cat Purry-Purry Sauce Hot Sauce with the lot number FCPPMAY092019 from Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, BI-LO Supermarkets and Harvey’s Supermarkets in the Southeastern U.S. between May 10, 2017 and June 8, 2017 are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 407-927-1771, Monday to Friday, from 9am – 4pm EST.

Announcement

Hampton Farms is expanding its voluntary recall to include Ava’s Brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews and Ava’s Brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Almonds distributed only in New Jersey. This is the result of a recall expansion from Hampton Farms’ supplier, Hudson Valley Foods, Inc. of Highland, NY advising Hampton Farms that ingredients sold to the company have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No confirmed illnesses have been reported to public health authorities to date. Although test results of ingredients on hand at Hampton Farms were negative for Listeria, Hampton Farms is recalling this item out of an abundance of caution.
All affected distributors and retail customers have been notified and the affected products are being removed from store shelves. Combined, fewer than 650 units of Ava’s Brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews and Ava’s Brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Almonds products were offered for retail sale in New Jersey.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
This announcement applies only to the Ava’s Brand Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews and Organic Roasted Unsalted Almonds product listed below and does not include any other items or the same item outside of this lot code:
Ava’s 8 oz. Organic Roasted Unsalted Cashews
UPC 8-10111-01036-8
Lot# 11817 Exp 4/28/18

UPC 8-10111-01032-0

No other Ava’s branded products or any other products produced by Hampton Farms are included within this recall. This recall expansion is being undertaken with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“We deeply regret this situation and have employed our established recall plan to immediately remove the product from distribution. Nothing is more important than providing safe and wholesome, quality products,” said Dallas Barnes, President of Hampton Farms.
Consumers should not consume these products. Affected product may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Hampton Farms Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm (EST) at 413-732-4193, press 0.
