Distributors of Brooklyn, NY is recalling its 10 ounce plastic packages of
Novus Snack Golden Raisins because they contain undeclared sulfites. Consumers
who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run risk of serious or life-threatening
allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The product
comes in 10 ounce plastic packages, code information “Best Before 1, July
2016.” Novus Snack Golden Raisins in 10 ounce packages were distributed in
Brooklyn NY, and have reached consumers through retail stores.
The recall
was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of
Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector and subsequent analysis by Food
Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 10 ounce package
of Novus Brand Golden Raisins which were not declared on the label. The
consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to
elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in
certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of
sulfites. Analysis of Novus Brand Golden Raisins revealed they contained 53.49
milligrams of sulfites per serving.
No illnesses
or allergic reaction involving this product have been reported to date.
Consumers who have purchased 10 ounces packages of Novus Brand Golden Raisins
are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refund. Consumers
